Key objectives of BharatNet Scheme
The main objective is to provide unrestricted access to broadband connectivity to all telecom service providers. Phases of BharatNet Scheme
The BharatNet Scheme is being implemented in three phases:
Phase I (2017):
Target – 1 lakh Gram Panchayats.
Mode of connectivity – Optical Fibre Cable (OFC).
Status – Achieved.
Phase II (2019):
Target – 1.5 lakh additional Gram Panchayats.
Mode of connectivity – OFC, satellite, and radio technology.
Status – In progress.
Phase III (2025)
To provide last-mile connectivity and broadband access to individual homes. To enable high-speed internet via 5G, Wi-Fi, and Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH). Increase internet speed to 1 Gbps.
How to Apply for BharatNet Scheme
You need to follow the steps below to apply for BharatNet connectivity:
Visit the official website of BBNL and download the application form for bandwidth and dark fibre. Now you can fill in the form with the correct details carefully. Attach all necessary documents, and this application form needs to be signed by the authorised signatory. Service providers may send a scanned copy of the application form to [email protected] to expedite processing of the application form. After receiving the application, BBNL is going to issue a demand note to make the payment to the service provider.
Payment can be made through a demand draft or pay order in favour of BBNL Collection Account, New Delhi. After making payment, a copy of transactions details is sent to [email protected]. All provisions will be made to provide connectivity, and after provisioning, the billing cycle will begin.

The goal is to provide a minimum of 100 Mbps bandwidth to each Gram Panchayat, facilitating access to e-services like e-governance, e-learning, e-commerce, and more. Key Milestones & Achievements of BharatNet Scheme
218,347 gram panchayats have been made service-ready across the country. 1.04 lakh Wi-Fi hotspots installed at gram panchayats to ensure internet access. Approved in August 2023 for 2.64 lakh gram panchayats in ring topology. 12.21 lakh to 13.01 lakh fibre-to-the-home connections commissioned for last-mile connectivity.
